CDO Wrap: February 2018

22 February 2018

Confidence. It’s what we all crave and sometimes we manage to find it. At least for a bit.

Well, this month we’re launching what we believe is a world-first digital confidence survey. Digital readiness, literacy and maturity – they’ve all been measured before. But none of those tell us just how confident you feel in this digital age. Do you feel equipped to quickly assess the value of new technology in your business? Do you know how to find the information you need, when you need it? Are you able to discern fad from value without going down too many rabbit holes of varying opinions?

If you can, if you feel confident in your abilities in this regard, then you will feel confident in growing your business in the digital age. You’ll feel confident that even if you don’t know how artificial intelligence works, you’ll know that’s okay because it’s not for your business. And this digital confidence – that’s what we’re about at Digital Brisbane.

So we want to know more from you. We’ve partnered with QUT’s Chair in Digital Economy to produce an academically robust but small business orientated survey. We just need you to take 15 minutes to fill it out. We will then use the findings to build our offering and to inform government policy, so we’re nurturing a confident business economy.

Expect to see the survey in your inbox shortly. Help us make Brisbane a more awesome place by sharing how you feel about digital in your business.

CoderDojo Brisbane kicked off its first term for 2018 this month (across seven Brisbane libraries!) with our coding ninjas ready to develop apps, build websites and create some really cool stuff.

Robotics kits and laptops are being donated to the program so our kids can learn to be creators of technology and not just consumers of it. You can read more about the generous donation here and how we’re equipping the next gen of digital leaders with the skills they need to thrive in a digital economy.

Cat Matson

Chief Digital Officer

Digital tech is an enabler, not an end outcome. I am excited by the opportunities digital presents. But digital for digital’s sake is the antithesis of digital transformation.

As Chief Digital Officer for the City of Brisbane, I drive the Digital Brisbane strategy. This includes building the digital capability and capacity of Brisbane’s business community; galvanising and showcasing the city’s start-up ecosystem; and informing the strategy for a smart-connected Brisbane.

I co-host the Social Media for Small Business Podcast with Suzi Dafnis of HerBusiness. Every fortnight or so we interview a new guest about different aspects of social media in the small business context.

I love chairing panel conversations of experts and thought leaders – juicy conversations with different perspectives spark fabulous ideas. I also enjoy delivering keynote presentations to interesting audiences.

Stay up to date with Brisbane's small business, startup and tech communities!
